2023 Awards Profile: Canadian Coast Guard, Unisync Group

The Canadian Coast Guard is the coast guard of Canada. Formed in 1962, the coast guard is tasked with marine search and rescue (SAR), communication, navigation, and transportation issues in Canadian waters. They operate 119 vessels of varying sizes and 23 helicopters, along with a variety of smaller craft. Headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario, the coast guard is a special operating agency within Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

Before Unisync turned this department into a Best Dressed Public Safety Department winner, achieving consistent measurements and meeting uniform specifications was a major headache. Returns of defective products were rampant. Today, coast guard members can be confident that not only will the product meet the program specifications, but perform to the demands of their work environment. And that is all thanks to Unisync.

Unisync currently outfits more than 3300 uniformed coast guard employees across 17 workgroups and 200+ job titles. The program contains 150+ uniform components including work shirts, work pants/shorts, outerwear, sweaters, epaulets, dress uniforms and service caps. In addition, the uniforms are complimented with rank braiding, distinctive cloth, insignia/badges and name tags. The program meets the stated goal of shifting away from gender identity

The resultant program fulfills the Canadian Coast Guard’s stated goal: to operate under a full gender-neutral uniform offering. Future styles will continue this design choice, with a focus on inclusivity, diversity, and functionality.

The entry process for the 2024 Best Dressed Public Safety Department Competition, as well as NAUMD’s other recognition programs will open late fall.  Check the website and keep reading The Pulse for updates, or contact rick.levine@naumd.com to learn more.
