Delta Air Says Flight Attendants Must Wear Approved Uniform Following Garment Complaints

May 2, 2022 | Airlines

Flight attendants at Delta Air Lines can no longer wear their own clothing at work following a uniform scandal that resulted in nearly 50 percent of the Atlanta-based airline’s crew swapping out the official uniform for off-the-rack alternatives.

With weeks of the uniform program’s 2018 rollout, some frontline staffers complained of serious adverse reactions to the garments. Independent laboratory testing of sample uniform pieces failed to back up those claims but as the problems became more widespread, Delta gave staffers the option to wear their own clothing to work.

But that exemption ended May 2, after Delta introduced an alternative uniform choice made with Oeko-Tex 100 certified material. Flight attendants must wear one of the official uniform choices or go on unpaid leave.
