COBMEX®, a global leader in uniform knitwear, proudly announces the launch of two scholarships for design students at George Brown College. These scholarships, aimed at nurturing the next generation of designers, underscore COBMEX®’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the uniform industry.
The announcement coincides with the first annual National Uniform Day on September 18th, an initiative by the Network Association of Uniform Manufacturers and Distributors (NAUMD). National Uniform Day, conceived by NAUMD, aims to celebrate the millions of workers who proudly wear uniforms daily. By introducing these scholarships on this day, COBMEX® not only honors these workers but also emphasizes the importance of innovation and sustainability in the uniform industry.
The scholarships are designed to support students who demonstrate a passion for innovation and sustainability in uniform design. The COBMEX® Innovation in Uniform Design Scholarship will be awarded to a student presenting creative approaches to uniform design, while the COBMEX® Sustainability in Uniform Apparel Scholarship will recognize a student offering innovative solutions for sustainability in the uniform industry.
Ana Rita Morais, interim dean, Centre for Arts, Design, & Information Technology, expressed the significance of this partnership, stating, ” “We are proud to collaborate with COBMEX® to offer two new scholarships, which align with our mission to equip our students with the skills and knowledge to drive positive change in the fashion industry. These scholarships will empower our students to pursue their passions in innovation and sustainability while making a lasting impact on the world.”
Jon Edberg, executive vice president at COBMEX®, emphasized the importance of this initiative in aligning with COBMEX®’s long-standing commitment to the future of the uniform industry. He expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “By investing in the education of young designers, we are not only supporting their dreams but also ensuring the continued evolution and improvement of our industry. These scholarships reflect our dedication to fostering creativity and sustainability in uniform design.”
Pricila Neal, senior director of design and product at COBMEX®, highlighted the significance of this support: “As a former student of George Brown, I know how crucial it is to nurture and inspire the next generation of designers, giving them the tools and opportunities they need to innovate and succeed.”
The significance of these scholarships extends beyond financial support. As Rick Levine, executive director of NAUMD, notes, “This initiative not only nurtures the talents of the next generation but also fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of the uniform and workwear industry. By empowering students to innovate and embrace sustainability, we are investing in the future leaders who will drive our industry forward.”
The application process for the scholarships opened on August 20, 2024, and will close on September 30, 2024. The recipients will be selected based on their essays and will be announced at an awards ceremony in the spring of 2025, where COBMEX® executives will present the awards.
COBMEX® invites industry partners, customers, and the community to join in celebrating National Uniform Day. For more information about the COBMEX® scholarships and application details, please visit the George Brown College Foundation website or contact COBMEX®.
