Block Bindings Expands North American Footprint with Acquisition of Ace Binding

Jul 7, 2025 | Mergers & Acquisitions

In a strategic move that bolsters its presence in the North American textile supply chain, Block Bindings & Interlinings Ltd. has announced the acquisition of Ace Binding, a Baltimore-based supplier with over 80 years of history in the industry. The acquisition marks another step in Block Bindings’ efforts to strengthen its product portfolio and expand its reach across the continent.

Founded in 1924 and headquartered in Mont‑Royal, Quebec, Block Bindings & Interlinings Ltd. is a longstanding supplier of textile components used widely in uniforms, workwear, and fashion apparel. The company is known for manufacturing waistbands, pocketing, fusibles, linings, and tapes, serving manufacturers across Canada and the U.S. With a strong focus on local production and job creation, Block has earned a reputation for reliability and responsiveness within the sewn‑products industry.

Ace Binding, established in 1941, brings decades of U.S.-based manufacturing experience and is recognized for its Berry‑Amendment-compliant offerings—an important designation for companies supplying U.S. military and federal contracts. The company provides pocketing, lining, waistband materials, trims, and specialized cutting and fusing services from its facility in Baltimore, Maryland.

In addition to its core products, Block Bindings highlights an enhanced safety portfolio featuring 3M Scotchlite reflective materials and 3M Thinsulate insulating products. Scotchlite reflective fabrics—available in silver and high‑visibility flame‑resistant variants—enhance visibility in low‑light conditions and meet ANSI/ISEA and NFPA standards. Meanwhile, Thinsulate insulation, first introduced in 1979, offers lightweight warmth that retains insulating performance when wet and is commonly used in gloves, jackets, and cold‑weather accessories. These additions position Block to supply advanced safety and protective textiles to demanding markets like public safety, transportation, and outdoor gear.

“We are extremely grateful for the collaborative acquisition process that we experienced thanks to owner Larry Cohen’s leadership and look forward to a smooth transition,” said Allan Rais, President of Block Bindings. “The combination of our businesses reinforces our ability to provide stability and diversity in the supply chain for uniform and workwear manufacturers across North America.”

This acquisition follows other recent expansions by Block Bindings, including the integration of MSB/Prestige Bindings and Interforme Interlinings in Montreal, and the L.A. Najarian Ribbon Mill in Greene, New York. Each of these strategic moves reflects the company’s broader commitment to strengthening regional textile manufacturing capabilities while maintaining long-standing relationships with key customers in the uniform and apparel space.

With this latest acquisition, Block Bindings positions itself not just as a product supplier, but as a strategic partner capable of supporting complex domestic and international sourcing needs. As reshoring and Berry compliance become bigger priorities across the industry, manufacturers are increasingly seeking partners who can provide scale, service, and flexibility—qualities Block aims to deliver.

By adding Ace Binding’s capabilities and Berry-compliant offerings to its portfolio, Block Bindings is now positioned to deliver even more value to both new and existing clients in the public safety, military, and corporate sectors. The move also provides continuity for Ace Binding customers, who have relied on consistent quality and responsiveness for decades.

As consolidation continues across the textile supply chain, moves like this illustrate how suppliers are adapting to market pressures by expanding their product lines, reinforcing domestic sourcing options, and offering advanced safety solutions—a trend that has become increasingly important to NAUMD members and their customers.
