With all the talk surrounding tariffs and trade, you might be wondering who are the US’ top trade partners. The following is a primer:
Combining imports and exports, the United States’ top trade partner in 2023 was Mexico, with nearly $798 billion in goods and services exchanged between them. Following that were Canada ($773 billion) and China ($575 billion).
These nations have been the US’ top three every year at least 2009, accounting for 42% of all US trade in 2023.
No other country exported half as much to the US as those three — the next-highest value trade partners were Germany ($159 billion), Japan ($147 billion), South Korea ($116 billion), and Vietnam ($114 billion).
