2024 Awards Profile: Nutrien Mining Group, Vestis

Aug 12, 2024 | Awards

Nutrien is the world’s largest provider of crop inputs and services. A portion of its staff is involved in the mining process — a hard, demanding, dirty, and sometimes dangerous job in a very hot environment. Safety, comfort, inclusivity, and sustainability are paramount.

Vestis was tasked with creating custom, branded uniforms that could stand up to the demanding work performed daily by the entire Nutrien mining team, while adhering to corporate goals of inclusivity and sustainability.

Vestis addressed each of these concerns by developing a collection of CAT 2, inherently flame-resistant, enhanced visibility uniforms with reflective trim.  Additionally, Vestis incorporated the use of Westex® DH Air, a lightweight, CAT 2 fabric  from Milliken. Westex® DH Air is an excellent choice for arc flash and flash fire protection, provides excellent breathability and moisture management and maintains color consistency.

The unique aspect of this fabric is that it is lightweight and breathable, while also being an extremely durable material made to stand up to harsh environments, making it the perfect choice to be worn in the mines. Vestis used solid brass zippers, double needle stitching at key stress areas and reinforced knees and tool pockets to increase its longevity.

Vestis incorporated additional comfort and convenience features throughout including, multiple pockets in key, easy-to-access locations , concealed snaps, adjustable wrist closures, action back styling for increased mobility, and side waistbands.  Women’s styles were also added to the line and were designed for a female silhouette. Maternity pants and tops were added to help ensure inclusivity at all times.
