The Nevada Highway Patrol’s directive was to return their uniform program back to one with a more traditional and professional image. They had strayed to uniforms with a tactical, less professional appearance, due to lack of options and service. They wanted from their new uniform supplier a program that would provide the image that the Nevada Highway Patrol and its officers had previously. Spiewak provided that and more, and as a result, turned this department into an award winning, best dressed agency.
The program consists of multiple options available to all troopers, with fabrics and colors developed specifically for the Patrol. All Class A and B uniforms are custom made. The department’s Class A look consists of a gray long sleeve shirt with contrasting navy epaulets and pocket flaps with a shoulder emblem sewn on each sleeve, a gray 4-pocket trouser with a 1 inch navy stripe, navy tie and campaign hat. Outerwear options include a reversible ANSI Hi Viz softshell jacket/Liner, and a weather tech duty jacket.
Tradition is nice, of course, but these garments are loaded with performance features and updated using modern sensibilities. Spiewak manufactured garments using a poly/wool/Lycra blend that provides additional stretch and comfort, high pill rate, color retention and easy care. Toppers who are allergic to wool can opt for uniforms made with Sorbtek® 365™ fabric, a polyester that provides fast wicking, superior hand and comfort climate control.
The entry process for the 2024 Best Dressed Public Safety Department Competition, as well as NAUMD’s other recognition programs will open late fall. Check the website and keep reading The Pulse for updates, or contact rick.levine@naumd.com to learn more.
