2025 Awards: Volvo Workshop Apparel, Workwear Outfitters

May 12, 2025 | Awards

Workwear Outfitters and Red Kap partnered with Volvo to launch a fully updated Workshop Apparel Program designed for over 2,000 technicians across Volvo service centers. After 15 years without changes, the program modernizes the look, adds advanced functionality, and introduces female-specific designs. In fact, Volvo prioritized technician feedback and inclusivity, engaging female student designers in the process.

New features include MIMIX® flex panels for increased mobility and breathability, OilBlok stain-resistant technology to combat the toughest shop fluids, and lightweight, durable Ripstop fabric. Additionally, covered snaps were incorporated to protect vehicles from accidental scratches, reflecting Volvo’s attention to both worker and customer environments.

Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, Volvo addressed a significant gap in the program by designing apparel tailored for both men and women. Historically, the program relied on male silhouette garments, but Volvo prioritized female-friendly designs, addressing specific pain points such as fit, pocket shapes, and collar sizes to ensure comfort and functionality for all technicians.

Further reflecting Volvo’s commitment to safety and evolving technology, the new program includes Flame-Resistant (FR) coveralls designed for technicians working on Electric Vehicles prior to power-down. These coveralls, available for both men and women, provide CAT 1 protection and comply with NFPA® 2112 standards, ensuring maximum safety without compromising comfort or mobility.

The collection debuted at the Volvo Dealer Show to strong retailer interest. Since launching in August 2024, sales increased by 21%, reinforcing Volvo’s commitment to innovation, safety, and a premium technician image.
