To create the desired program for bus operators, SORTA first established a uniform committee of transit drivers, clerks, supervisors and administrators to explore options and test fabrications and styles for feedback. The end result? A “New Look ” that was comfortable, functional, and professional, and designed by NAUMD network member Lion/Elbeco.
Because the uniform design and colors were new to this agency, SORTA decided to provide each employee with an initial issue of four pants, four shirts and two jackets. Employees could choose between cargo pants, hidden cargo pants or 4 pocket pants and the combination they desired. Shirt options included polos or police style uniform shirts and they were allowed to order long sleeve or short sleeve in whatever style they wanted and the combination they wanted for their initial four shirts. All employees received navy blue pants, but the different divisions were identified by shirt colors: drivers/operators wear french blue shirts; supervisors wear white shirts and clerks wear gray shirts.
Garments are loaded with plenty of performance features to meet the demands of the job. Moisture wicking and stretch are standard, as are garments that won’t fade, shrink or wrinkle. A three in one jacket program was also chosen that provided operators and staff a waterproof and breathable jacket to service their needs and provide protection from any form of outside elements.
